OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, just made a really cool announcement! They’ve bought a company called Global Illumination, which is based in New York.
Global Illumination uses AI to make creative tools, cool stuff on the internet, and other fun things.
The people in charge at Global Illumination, Thomas Dimson, Taylor Gordon, and Joey Flynn, are now part of OpenAI. They’re going to help make ChatGPT even better.
The Global Illumination team has done some awesome things before. They helped make stuff like Instagram and Facebook when they were just starting out. They also did important work at YouTube, Google, Pixar, Riot Games, and other famous places.
OpenAI is really happy to have them on the team. The latest thing Global Illumination worked on is called Biomes. It’s like a game that’s open for everyone to play and it’s kind of like Minecraft. You can play it right on the internet.
This news comes at a time when ChatGPT’s friends were noticing something interesting. In June, fewer people were using ChatGPT compared to May. This continued in July, with even fewer people using ChatGPT.
Some other companies are also making AI tools like ChatGPT. There’s Bard and Claude 2, and Google and DeepMind are working on something called Gemini. Even Elon Musk is trying to make a chatbot that’s as good as ChatGPT!
So, OpenAI is getting ready for a challenge. They want to make ChatGPT even cooler, and that’s why they brought Global Illumination into their team. It’s an exciting time for them!
