OpenAI has unveiled Sora, a groundbreaking AI that can generate 1 minutes of video in 12 minutes on NVIDIA’s H100 GPUs. This means one GPU can produce up to 120 minutes of video daily!
Factorial Funds’ insights suggest a massive impact on content creation for platforms like TikTok and YouTube, with an estimated 89,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs required to meet the creator community’s needs.
However, considering the realistic use, peak demand, and the creation process—where creators often produce multiple videos before choosing one—the GPU requirement could jump to 720,000.
Sora has been hailed as the “ChatGPT moment for video” since its debut in February, praised for creating hyper-realistic videos from text prompts.
It’s set to be available to the public later this year, focusing initially on visual artists and filmmakers. OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, shared plans to enhance Sora with sound and editing capabilities.
Moreover, OpenAI is pitching Sora to Hollywood. The team plans to meet with industry giants in Los Angeles to discuss integrating this AI video generator into films and content, aiming to transform entertainment production.
