In a recent Discord session, Sora Global Office Hours, OpenAI announced it will integrate its Sora video-generation tool directly into the ChatGPT interface.
Sora product lead Rohan Sahai confirmed that work is underway to bring the video creator to ChatGPT, though no specific launch date was mentioned.
This ChatGPT version will likely offer fewer features than Sora’s dedicated web application, which provides more advanced video editing options.
Beyond this integration, OpenAI is developing:
- A dedicated Sora mobile app
- A Sora-powered image generator that could outperform DALL-E 3 in photorealism
- A faster “Sora Turbo” model
The company is actively recruiting engineers to help build these new tools and features.
The announcement comes at a critical time for Sora. Despite initial excitement, the tool’s impact has been lessened by competition from rivals and a slower-than-expected rollout.
By incorporating Sora into ChatGPT, OpenAI aims to improve workflow integration and make the technology more accessible. However, quality improvements will be necessary to compete effectively with alternatives like Google’s Veo 2 and Kling.
